Deadweight Price Calculator

This new deadweight price calculator will enable lamb producers to compare the prices offered by two abattoirs taking into account different dressing specifications, abattoir charges and transport deductions.  The converter presents the user with a straightforward like-for-like comparison of the prices offered by two abattoirs. For a 19kg lamb for example, if the price at abattoir A using an MLC specification is £2.50 /kg it returns £45.80/ lamb after certain deductions and transport charges.  Whilst for Abattoir B using a company specification removing the kidney knob, channel fat and tail, the price needs to be £2.59/kg to match that of Abattoir A if all other charges are the same.

Dressing Specifications Vary

Specifications and deductions vary between abattoirs for all sorts of legitimate reasons. Producers are often unaware there are different Dressing Specifications, the main ones being -; MLC Standard or MLC Tail Removed, and then some abattoirs apply a ‘Company Spec.’ that may exclude the Kidney Knob and Channel Fat. No alternative text No alternative text

This user-friendly calculator takes this into account, along with abattoir deductions and transport costs, when producing a price comparison.  Simply enter values for the weight and target fat class for your lambs, then the relevant dressing specifications, price, transport charges and any additional deductions for the two abattoirs and the converter does the rest.   Click here to try it.
