EBLEX Better Returns Programme

The EBLEX Beef Better Returns Programme (BRP) is a Defra-funded project which will run free training events and provide practical, easy-to-use information for beef producers over the next two years.  These will concentrate on the programme’s five main themes Selection, Breeding, Fertility & Health, Feeding and Systems & Costings.

The opening up of the export market and the end of direct support and the Over Thirty Month Scheme (OTMS) mean beef producers are now much more reliant on the market place.  This makes Beef BRP even more timely as it looks to help producers cope with the challenges and make the most of the opportunities.

As Peter Kendall, President, NFU says: “Getting the most from your beef enterprise will be critical to securing a sustainable future for the industry.  The EBLEX BRP is a timely ‘hands-on’ opportunity for producers to take a fresh look at aspects of beef management and farm costings to help them build and secure better profit margins.”

The programme has already been popular with producers, including Bryan Wilson, a beef breeder and producer from Staffordshire: “Everybody learns something at the Beef BRP events. Not enough farmers go onto other farms to get ideas. This programme is a good source of knowledge and can help farmers generate better returns.”

Backed by an industry steering group which includes producers, auctioneers and industry the programme delivers what the beef industry really needs in the best possible way.
